At least one person has been killed and several others injured in an explosion in the center of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, according to Syrian state media and local sources.

The Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reported on Wednesday evening that a member of the internal security forces was killed and others wounded in a suicide bombing that targeted a police patrol in the Bab al-Faraj area of Aleppo.

According to the report, the attacker detonated himself near the patrol, causing casualties among security personnel. Local sources cited by Sputnik said preliminary information indicated the blast was the result of a suicide operation aimed at internal security forces operating in the area.

The incident comes amid a series of recent explosions reported across Syria. On Monday, Syrian media said an unidentified blast was heard near the Mezzeh district of the capital, Damascus. Initial reports suggested the sound may have been linked to military exercises, with no confirmed casualties or damage.

Separately, local sources told Sputnik on Friday that an explosion struck a mosque in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs during Friday prayers. The blast hit the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.

SANA later reported preliminary figures indicating that three people were killed and five wounded in the Homs explosion. Early information suggested a suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt inside the mosque, though Syrian authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact cause of the blast.
