The US Department of Defense (The Pentagon) announced on Wednesday that 20 American troopers were injured as a result of drone attacks on American bases in Iraq and Syria.

The Pentagon indicated that 20 American soldiers were slightly injured on October 18 when two drones targeted the Al-Tanf military base in southern Syria.

It claimed that one of the planes had been shot down, stressing that all injured personnel had returned to duty and no damage was caused to any military facilities.

On the same day, 4 other soldiers were slightly injured during two drone attacks against American and coalition forces stationed at the Ain al-Asad base in western Iraq.

General Pat Ryder, the Pentagon's press secretary, said Tuesday that American and coalition forces were attacked at least 10 times last week in Iraq and three times in Syria.

“There is the potential for greater escalation against US forces and personnel across the region in the very near term, coming from groups affiliated with Iran,” Ryder said.
