U.S. House of Representatives Speaker, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, said on Monday that President Donald Trump's "sudden" dismissal of Defense Secretary Mark Esper, just two days after the US media announced that Joe Biden had won the presidential election, is a disturbing evidence that Trump is intending to exploit his final days in office to sow chaos in American Democracy and around the world.

"The abrupt firing of Secretary Esper is a disturbing evidence that President Trump is intending to use his final days in office to sow chaos in our American Democracy and around the world," Pelosi said in a statement. "Continuity and stability are always important during a presidential transition; they are absolutely imperative at this moment, as this historically erratic Administration prepares for its departure."

After a lengthy count, Biden’s victory was finally announced Saturday – with joyous scenes breaking out across the US.

He has defeated President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States. He won Pennsylvania on Saturday to exceed the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House.

Biden has pledged to be a “President for all Americans”, while running mate Kamala Harris said it was a race “for the soul of America”.
