In a rigorous operation at Sphinx Airport, customs officials successfully intercepted an Egyptian passenger found in possession of narcotics scheduled under controlled substances.

The operation took place during the customs clearance of passengers arriving from Milan on a Wizz Air flight, overseen by the Central Administration of Cairo International Airport Customs, led by Dr. Majed Mosi.

The incident unfolded when customs officer Nehi Mustafa, stationed at the Green Line committee, detained a passenger who initially denied having any items to declare. A thorough X-ray screening of his luggage, conducted by officers Adam Abdel Aziz and Mohamed Gomaa, revealed hidden pharmaceutical packages. Subsequently, Nora El-Sayed Abdel Hamid, Head of the Arrival Hall at Sphinx Airport, ordered a detailed manual inspection by Ahmed Abdel Ghani El-Atfihy, which unveiled 37 drug strips.

These included 16 strips of Pregabalin 500mg with 224 capsules, 4 strips of the same drug containing 56 capsules, and 17 strips of OxyContin totaling 161 tablets.

The discovery was supported by Karim Jamal Abdel Aziz, a customs inspector specializing in personal searches. Following the seizure, Hossam El Din Abou El Fadl Shaqweir, acting manager of Sphinx Airport Customs, initiated Customs Report No. 2 for 2024. The passenger was subsequently referred to the appropriate legal authorities by Dr. Majed Mosi, affirming the airport's commitment to combating drug smuggling.
