Egypt's parliament's Secretary-General Mahmoud Fawzi was keen to cast his vote on the first day of parliamentary elections, at Mansheyat Al Bakri school in Al-Haram.
After voting, Fawzi said, "The homeland enemies always seek to distort the political and electoral scene and aim to obstruct any step taken by Egyptian state towards stability and security."
"Yet, Egypt is moving steadily towards achieving its goals, neglecting all these evil attempts."
"Parliaments strive to meet citizens' aspirations," he added, stressing that all legislative and executive institutions collaborate, interact and integrate to achieve the state's interest.
Fawzi also noted that the current parliament has issued almost a total of 884 laws.
Regarding the date of the newly-elected parliament's inaugural session, Fawzi noted that it will be held upon an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, expecting that it would take place January 10, 2021.
It is worth mentioning that, the first stage of the parliamentary elections kicked off earlier today Saturday, across Egyptian governorates.
The National Elections Authority coordinates with the concerned government agencies to secure the election process.
Police forces are deployed in the streets, while the Interior Ministry raised the level of preparedness to secure the election process.
The re-runs of the first stage will be held for Egyptians abroad from November 21 to 23 and in Egypt on November 24 and 25.
