John Matze the Parler CEO had to leave his home and hide with his family after receiving death threats and invasive personal security breaches, Fox News reported, Saturday.
Parler, a platform widely embraced by US President Donald Trump supporters, had earlier launched an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon after the tech giant discontinued its services following last week's violent riots on the Capitol.
On his part, Matze, didn’t specify the source of the threats, but his lawyer said in a filing that Matze’s covert action was required because he’s been spotlighted. The filing from Parler's lawyers obtained by Fox News acknowledges the disturbing claims made by Amazon but note that the Jeff Bezos-run company is not the one receiving threats.
Earlier, Apple issued a warning to the ”Parler app” that it must implement a full moderation plan to its platform within the next 24 hours or be removed from the App store, unless the company changes its content moderation policies, according to Reuters.
The right-leaning social media users in the United States have flocked to Parler, messaging app Telegram over the more aggressive policing of political comments on mainstream platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Where Twitter permanently suspended President Trump’s account.
On other hand, Google removed app from its Play Store. The firm’s spokesman explained that they’re aware of continued posting in the Parler app that seeks to incite ongoing violence in the U.S.
However, Google reported that the app will not be removed from the users phones who already downloaded it. Also, the suspension also doesn’t limit the app’s availability on other Android app stores.
