On Friday, the Papal Swiss Guard denied the rumors circulated by some media outlets on Thursday regarding preparations for the funeral of Pope Francis following his hospitalization in Rome.
The Papal Guard said in an official statement: "There are no preparations for the Pope's funeral within the Swiss Guard."
The Italian newspaper Zenit reported that the Swiss Guard strongly rejected claims that they were preparing for a papal funeral.
Elia Sinotti, the spokesperson for the Swiss Guard, stated that these allegations had caused concern within the guard, adding, "We continue our duties as usual and pray for the Pope's speedy recovery."
His comments come as Pope Francis remains under medical care at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he was admitted due to bilateral pneumonia.
In the same context, the Vatican refuted the latest speculations regarding the Pope's funeral preparations.
