On Sunday, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of Mediterranean (PAM) Gannaro Migliore warned that hate speech and pisive rhetoric can only fuel violence and hatred.

Migliore said: "They need to hear it from politicians. They need to hear it from religious leaders. We all have a responsibility towards our citizens. Hate speech and pisive rhetoric can only fuel resentment, misunderstandings and violence."

During his participation in the activities of the 32nd International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) under the title: “The Citizenship Contract and its Impact on Achieving Social & Global Peace,” he shed light on the role of the institution towards religious affairs.

The President reflected: "PAM has promoted parliamentary diplomacy as a tool to advance peace. It is more needed than ever. This has included frequent and close cooperation with the high representatives of the monotheist religions of our regions to fight terrorism, violent extremism and hate speech."

He added: "PAM is committed to do all in its capacity continue to play its unique role of facilitator and platform of parliamentary diplomacy in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, with a mandate to promote constructive dialogue, support peace initiatives and invest in sustainable economic and environmental policies.

Through PAM parliamentary diplomacy, countries have an alternative framework to keep the door for talks open and activate new strategies to work towards peace and stability, and collectively find solutions to the region’s main security concerns."
