The spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent, Nibal Farsakh, highlighted the dire healthcare situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly in Rafah, amid the increasing shutdown of hospitals due to Israeli attacks and a severe shortage of medical supplies.
The ongoing Israeli control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing and its closure to aid have exacerbated the crisis.
In a statement made during an interview with Cairo News Channel on Tuesday, Farsakh reported that only 14 hospitals are partially operational across the entire Gaza Strip. In Rafah, only three field hospitals remain functional.
Since October 7, 19 Palestinian Red Crescent personnel have been killed while performing their humanitarian duties, underscoring Israel's disregard for international laws and humanitarian law, which mandate the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers during conflicts.
Farsakh emphasized that humanitarian relief efforts have nearly ceased due to the depletion of humanitarian aid and food supplies within the Gaza Strip. She stressed the urgent need for support, assistance, and the entry of humanitarian aid into the region.
