Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, speaking at the 34th Arab League Summit held in Baghdad, Iraq, warned that the Palestinian cause is currently facing existential threats.

He emphasized that the ongoing acts of genocide in Gaza and settlement expansion in the West Bank constitute a colonial project, calling for the release of all hostages and detainees, and a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Abbas stated that efforts are underway to enable the State of Palestine to assume its full security responsibilities.

He reaffirmed that the Palestinian Authority is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and urged Hamas to relinquish control of Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority.

Palestinian President stressed the need to empower the State of Palestine to govern Gaza and reiterated his call for all factions, including Hamas, to disarm.

He also proposed holding an international conference in Cairo to fund the reconstruction of Gaza, expressing appreciation for Egypt's ongoing efforts in this regard.

The Palestinian President urged the adoption of a unified Arab plan to end the war on Gaza and expressed readiness to hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as the appropriate conditions are met.

He concluded by presenting Palestine’s political vision at the summit, affirming that efforts to reform state institutions will continue, along with initiatives aimed at achieving Palestinian unity.
