The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday condemned the United States' use of veto power on Friday against a Security Council resolution calling for a "ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip, holding it responsible for the "bloodshed" occurring there.

In a statement released by his office, Abbas described the U.S. stance as "aggressive and unethical," assigning Washington the responsibility for the bloodshed of Palestinian children, women, and elderly in the Gaza Strip.

Abbas asserted that "this U.S. policy makes the United States a partner in the crime of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians in Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Jerusalem," warning that "this policy has become a danger to the world, threatening international peace and security."

The Palestinian President remarked, "This decision, with which the U.S. administration has defied the international community, will give the Israeli occupation state an additional green light to continue its aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip, and will form a disgrace that will pursue the United States for many years."

Abbas called on the "international community to find solutions to stop the genocide being committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip, before this serious crisis turns into a religious war that threatens the entire world."

Yesterday, the UN Security Council failed for the second time to pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, after the United States exercised its veto right, despite the UN Secretary-General António Guterres' warning that there is no effective protection for civilians in Gaza, and no safe place in the sector.
