The official Palestinian News Agency, WAfA, reported that the Israeli occupation has killed 61 children since the beginning of this year, 44 children in the West Bank, and 17 children during the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The agency quoted Ayed Abu Qutaish, Director of the Accountability Program at Defense for Children International, as saying: "The killing of the child Jana Zakarneh in Jenin last night raised the number of child martyrs to 61 since the beginning of this year."

He noted that the targeting of children who do not form any threat is increase the killing because the absence of accountability and impunity constitutes a green light for the occupation soldiers to continue killing.

Abu Qutaish explained that the global movement annually submits a report to the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Children and Armed Conflict.

He revealed that in 2015 the movement called for the occupation army to be included in the blacklist - and the recommendation of the representative of the Secretary-General was approved.

He went on to say that pressure from Israel and the United States prevented blacklisting the occupying power.
