The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Monday that the death toll from the war in the Gaza Strip has risen to 71,800 people, with 171,555 others injured, since the outbreak of the Israeli offensive on the besieged Palestinian enclave on 7 October 2023.
In a statement, the ministry said that Gaza hospitals received five bodies, including two victims recovered from under the rubble, as well as four wounded people over the past 24 hours. This comes amid continued Israeli attacks despite a ceasefire that entered into force on 10 October.
The ministry warned that a number of victims remain trapped beneath debris or lying in streets and open areas, as ambulance and civil defence teams remain unable to reach them due to ongoing dangers and extensive destruction.
According to the statement, 526 people have been killed and 1,447 injured since the ceasefire began on 10 October, while 717 bodies have so far been recovered from under the rubble.
