The Palestinian factions in Gaza announced that there would be no new deals to exchange prisoners and detainees, except after the end of the Israeli aggression on the besieged Strip.
However, a source familiar with the negotiations between the two parties said that the chances of reaching an agreement still exist, but he said that “the gap is still large.” The ceiling of demands is high on both sides.”
The Palestinian factions said, in a statement published by the Hamas movement, “There is a Palestinian national decision that there should be no talk about prisoners or exchange deals except after a comprehensive cessation of aggression.”
Egypt is pushing hard to complete a deal to exchange prisoners and detainees between the two sides, which prompted it to arrange a visit by the leaders of Hamas, and after them the Jihad movement, to Cairo.
US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that he does not expect an agreement to be reached soon between Israel and Hamas to release detainees in Gaza.
