A Palestinian faction meeting intended to take place this week in Cairo to discuss issues relating to Palestinian elections has been postponed until mid-February, according to Al-Arabiya news.

Moussa Mohammed Abu Marzouk, a member of Hamas's political bureau said, "It has been agreed to postpone the meeting of the factions in Cairo until mid-February," without disclosing the reasons for this postponement.

On his part, Secretary-General of Fatah's Central Committee (FCC), Jibril Rajoub confirmed on Monday, 1/2/2021, that the national dialogue in Cairo will start on February 8.

He added that the delegations participating in the dialogue will arrive in Cairo on February 7.

On January 15, President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree on holding general elections in three stages.

According to the decree, legislative elections will be held on May 22, and presidential elections on July 31.

Thus, the results of the Legislative Council elections are considered the first stage in the formation of the Palestinian National Council.

The National Council will be completed on August 31 in accordance with the basic system of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and national understandings.
