Palestinian political analyst Jihad Harb confirmed in exclusive statements to See that the decision of the United Nations General Assembly, which adopted a resolution recommending that the Security Council positively reconsider Palestine’s membership, is an important step and increases the privileges of the State of Palestine.

Palestinian political analyst Jihad Harb told See that: “The decision of the United Nations General Assembly that voted on it constitutes an important shift and an important development regarding the right of the State of Palestine to be a full member of the United Nations, and there is an international consensus on this matter when 143 out of 193 countries voted.” Only 9 countries opposed this decision.”

He added: “What this resolution contains is an expansion of the privileges of the observer State of Palestine, as it enjoys all the privileges related to member states of the United Nations, with the exception of voting and the possibility of the State of Palestine nominating United Nations bodies. These are the two main issues in which it is not possible to be among the privileges of membership in the United Nations.” .

He continued, saying: “This consensus means that the countries of the world are calling on the Security Council, especially the country that used the right of veto, which is the United States, in the Security Council at its session held on April 18 last, to return and review its decision regarding preventing the request of the State of Palestine submitted to the United Nations from receiving its positive recommendations.” The General Assembly decides that the State of Palestine is a member of the United Nations in accordance with Article Four of the Charter of the United Nations.”

He stressed that: “This decision serves Palestine, as there is an international consensus and there is a possibility to improve the performance of the Palestine Liberation Organization mission to the United Nations with regard to its movements within the corridors of the United Nations and in the sessions of the United Nations... and he feels that there is hope among the Palestinians that the international community supports him.” And help him.”

He pointed out that on the political level: “Recognition of the Palestinian state is no longer a condition for many countries of the world. It is no longer a condition for Israel’s approval of the Palestinian state in order to recognize it. This veto has practically been abolished, and some countries are going to recognize the Palestinian state, especially those countries that have not recognized the state.” Until now, the Palestinian Authority voted in the United Nations General Assembly that Palestine has the right to be a member of the United Nations, which is an implicit recognition that requires the declaration and approval that will be issued by these countries, such as France, Belgium, Spain, and other countries.
