The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed France’s announcement to recognize the State of Palestine, describing the move as a “victory for diplomacy”.
In an official statement, the ministry said French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision reflects a commitment to international law and the pursuit of a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“The recognition of the State of Palestine is a reaffirmation of the principles of justice and international legitimacy,” the ministry noted, calling on other countries around the world to take concrete steps toward implementing the two-state solution.
The announcement follows Macron’s declaration that France will officially recognize Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in September, a move that would join the stance of over 140 countries that have already extended formal recognition.
