“Geo TV” a Pakistani TV network, revealed that the Taliban (an Afghani Islamist militant movement) reached today, Thursday, reached a peace accord with the opposing northern alliance based in Panjshir Valley.

The two parties consent to avoid a military escalation in Panjshir State, the only province that is still outside the power of the Taliban since it seized Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, on August 15.

The Pakistani channel quoted well-informed sources as saying that the Taliban and the Northern Alliance pledge not to assail each other.

Sources of the channel pointed out the peace accord was reached after meetings held between delegations of the Taliban and the Northern Alliance over the last two days at Shaikar city, the urban center of Parowan State.

The peace accord is scheduled to be declared over a news conference to be held later and attended by leaders of the Taliban and the Alliance, strong forces led by Ahmed Shah Massoud Jr., son of the late famous Tajik leader Massoud.

The two parties affirmed that they seek to find a peaceful solution for the conflict in Panjshir despite their preparations on earth to pick the military option there.

Zabiullah Mujahid,  a spokesman for the Taliban, said over an interview with Shamshad TV, an Afghani local channel, aired on Tuesday, that the Taliban contacted people in Panjshir and talked with chiefs of tribes,  influential persons, and field leaders in the state.

He went on to say that these talks will result in a solution without war in Panjshir, affirming that he is convinced by 80% that won’t be war in the province.

He offered guarantees to the population of Panjshir, especially those who collaborated with the collapsed government led by  President Ashraf Ghani, who fled the country and moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Mujahid warned that forces loyal to the Taliban arrived in Panjshir and enclosed it from four directions, stressing that the movement doesn’t seek to escalate there.
