Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives caused by heavy rains and floods that have swept across various parts of the country.
Radio Pakistan reported on Friday that Zardari extended his condolences to the families of the victims and instructed the concerned authorities to accelerate relief efforts, assist those affected, and work on rebuilding the devastated areas.
The floods, triggered by torrential rains, have killed at least 49 people in northwestern Pakistan and other regions of the country over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, rescue teams evacuated 1,300 stranded tourists from a mountainous area that experienced landslides.
