Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted on Saturday from office after he lost a no-confidence vote in his leadership.
The vote was held after midnight after opposition parties filed an application against it and the Supreme Court upheld it.
Khan said he would not recognize an opposition government, claiming that there was a US-led plot to remove him. The council will now appoint a new prime minister.
Pakistan's parliament is scheduled to meet to vote on the country's new prime minister on Monday.
The new PM will be able to hold power until October 2023, when the next election is scheduled.
