The Pakistani newspaper Dawn, quoting diplomatic sources in Islamabad, revealed that the unannounced visit of Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Tehran comes as part of ongoing Pakistani efforts to revive the stalled peace process between the United States and Iran.
According to the newspaper, the visit aims to prevent a complete collapse of negotiations, following a decline in momentum generated by previous rounds of talks hosted by the Pakistani capital in the recent period.
The sources indicated that the Pakistani minister is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials to discuss ways to reactivate the negotiation track and contain escalating tensions in the region.
These Pakistani moves come amidst intensifying regional efforts aimed at de-escalation between Washington and Tehran, amid fears of the repercussions that any new confrontation could have on Gulf security and regional stability.
