Pakistan is working to facilitate the return of 20 Iranian sailors from vessels detained near Singaporean waters, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday.
Dar said Islamabad was prepared to support the safe transit of Iranian citizens through Pakistani territory.
“I spoke with Araghchi regarding the return of Iranian sailors from ships detained near Singapore,” Dar said, referring to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. “We are working to return 20 Iranian sailors from vessels held near Singaporean waters.”
Dar's remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and increased scrutiny of maritime activity linked to Iran, following recent U.S. efforts to tighten enforcement measures in regional waterways.
During their call, the two officials also highlighted recent regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending what Iran describes as the imposed war by the U.S.-Israel alliance against Iran, and at restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.
Pakistan and Iran maintain close coordination on border security, trade, and regional diplomatic issues, with Islamabad periodically facilitating humanitarian transit and consular cooperation involving Iranian nationals.
