Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, stated that the root cause of instability in the Middle East is the unresolved Palestinian issue and the continued Israeli occupation of Arab territories.

During a UN Security Council session on the Middle East on Tuesday, Ahmed emphasized that the current impasse, particularly regarding the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, must be overcome as quickly as possible. He stressed that any further delay threatens to undermine the hard-won momentum and exacerbate the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, according to the United Nations.

The Pakistani envoy added, “Pakistan remains actively engaged in promoting diplomatic channels and advocating for a peaceful resolution to this crisis,” noting that the recent talks hosted by Islamabad between the United States and Iran are a testament to this commitment.

Iftikhar Ahmed stressed that the root cause of instability in the Middle East remains the unresolved Palestinian issue and the continued Israeli occupation of Arab lands. He said, "Ending the occupation, in order to establish a Palestinian state, and the two-state solution is the only viable framework for achieving a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace," emphasizing that Pakistan will continue to support this goal.
