"Dawn" channel reported that at least 8 people were killed and over 290 others were injured during the protests that erupted in Pakistan over the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on charges of corruption.

The channel noted that more than 1,900 demonstrators were detained during the clashes with the security forces across the country.

Two days ago, the Pakistani police arrested Imran Khan during his appearance before the Islamabad High Court.

The police wrote on Twitter that Imran Khan has been arrested in Islamabad in the case of ‘Qadir Trust’ referring to a corruption case.

Since his overthrow from power in a parliamentary vote in April 2022, Imran Khan has faced charges in several corruption cases, and a court has issued an arrest warrant for him in preparation for his trial in the case known in the media as “Toshakhana” (gift box), where Khan was accused of misleading officials about gifts he received while he was in office from the leaders of foreign countries and sold them for his account.

On his part, Khan rejects all accusations against him and considers them "illegal and a Western conspiracy," and launched a campaign against the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, calling for early elections.
