Severe flooding in Dagestan has left more than 6,200 people affected, with a comparable number of homes, private land plots, and essential infrastructure damaged, according to Sergey Melikov, Head of the Republic of Dagestan.
Melikov told NTV that 55 emergency shelters have been set up, providing refuge for over 700 residents. He added that the situation, while still challenging, is beginning to stabilize.
The floods, triggered by heavy rains at the end of March and early April, have caused widespread destruction in Makhachkala, Khasavyurt, and Derbent. Numerous homes, vehicles, and agricultural plots were submerged, and several bridges were washed away, disrupting daily life and critical transport routes.
The Russian Emergency Ministry confirmed five fatalities from the disaster. Local authorities have declared a state of emergency and maintain a high alert level while coordinating ongoing recovery and relief efforts across the republic.
Authorities continue to focus on restoring infrastructure, providing humanitarian assistance, and preventing further damage, as residents grapple with the aftermath of one of the region’s most severe flooding events in recent years
