Somalia announced on Thursday that more than 30 militants from the Al-Shabaab terrorist group, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, were killed in a military operation in the northern region of Mudug.

The operation, conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA) in collaboration with international partners, targeted key positions held by the militant group, leading to the destruction of military equipment, vehicles, and other supplies.

The Somali government stated that the raid took place in the town of Arfod, located 20 kilometers northeast of the coastal city of Harardhere, in the Mudug region.

The military operation focused on two key Al-Shabaab sites. One of the targeted locations was a meeting point where militants, including field commanders, were gathered.

The second site was used for preparing car bombs, a method frequently used by Al-Shabaab in their attacks across the country.

According to the official statement, the operation resulted in the deaths of 30 Al-Shabaab fighters, including several leaders, though their specific ranks within the group were not disclosed.

Additionally, the raid destroyed weapons and other military equipment belonging to the militants.

While the statement did not specify whether the operation was conducted by ground forces or air support, it is common for international partners to assist Somali forces in aerial operations.

Sources indicate that Somali troops also repelled a counterattack by Al-Shabaab militants during the operation, inflicting additional casualties on the group.
