The United Nations announced today that more than 250,000 students in Gaza have enrolled in remote learning programs following the widespread destruction of 95% of schools due to the ongoing Israeli war.
The announcement was made by UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric during a press briefing.
Dujarric stated that the students have joined the distance learning program managed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
He noted that despite the harsh winter conditions, many students are continuing their education in temporary tents set up in open areas.
The destruction of educational infrastructure has severely impacted the region, leaving students with limited options for continuing their studies. The shift to remote learning is a crucial step to ensure educational continuity under challenging circumstances.
The UN’s announcement underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the pressing need for international support to rebuild educational facilities and provide resources for effective remote learning.
