As the Indian economy has grown rapidly to become the 5th largest in the world, every sector has undergone a transition, with steady improvement in their performance, the IndianEmbassy in Cairo said in a statement.

India’s aviation sector proves to be a good example of this growth story and justifies the fact that development in transportation sector, in infrastructure and services, is an ideal indicator of economic growth. As of 2023, India has become the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world and is expected to become the third-largest air passenger market by 2024.

2. A range of factors, including the rising middle-class population, increase in disposable incomes and consequent surge in air traffic demand, has contributed to this growth. Even the demographic dividend of India, with the country being among the youngest in the world, hasalso contributed significantly. Consequently, India’s civil aviation sector is poised to achieve new heights, whichis reflected in the growth it has registered over the years. The aircraft fleet size has witnessed an increase of over 75% over the last 10 years. Similar growth can be seen in the number of passengers as well as in the volume of air cargo.

3. To overcome the difficulties posed by hilly and mountainous terrain and to ensure last-mile connectivity,in 2022, India has also come up with a new helicopter policy, which is expected to boost the helicopter industry.

4. There is also a considerable growth expected in the drone industry in India as the country plans to become a drone hub for the world by 2030. In this regard, the Government has brought out a series of incentives, right from streamlining the approval process of acquiring drones to having a special incentive for its manufacture. Drone technology israpidly emerging asa disruptive technology and this is reflected in its growing usage in multiple sectors in India, ranging from agriculture to resource surveys and product delivery.

5. India’s Minister of Civil Aviation, in a recent interview, said that India will have about 230-240 airports, including heliports and water aerodromes (for seaplanes), by 2030. He added that there would also be an expansion of fleet size as well as capacity of metro airports, which would be able to accommodate the growing number of passengers.
