More than 1,000 people have been killed in a massive landslide that swallowed an entire village in Sudan’s Darfur region, according to a statement from the Sudan Liberation Movement.
The disaster struck the village of Tarsin, located east of Jebel Marra near the Suni area, after days of heavy rainfall in late August.
The statement described the incident as a devastating and large-scale landslide that led to the complete destruction of the village and the deaths of nearly all its residents.
Initial reports suggest that only one person survived, while the rest of the population, estimated at over 1,000, perished as the village was entirely levelled.
The humanitarian crisis adds to the deep suffering in Sudan, a country already struggling with conflict, displacement, and economic hardship.
International aid organizations are expected to monitor the situation closely, although access to affected areas remains challenging due to ongoing instability in Sudan.
