Oslo Airport announced the suspension of air traffic on Wednesday as heavy snowfall disrupted transportation across Scandinavia.

The airport stated that it would remain closed until 2:30 PM local time.

"At that time, a new assessment will be conducted," the airport declared on its social media platforms.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute issued warnings of heavy snowfall and strong winds in the Oslo metropolitan area.

Most bus services were canceled, and train operator Vy reported that train routes were closed in extensive areas of eastern Norway.

In neighboring Sweden, heavy snowfall led to numerous traffic accidents in the west and south of the country, causing traffic jams on several major roads.

The police issued a statement warning that the road surfaces were extremely slippery and advised citizens not to venture out unless necessary.

The Swedish National Meteorological Agency issued a warning for the capital, Stockholm, of "strong winds accompanying snowfall."
