OpenAI has filed a lawsuit against billionaire Elon Musk, aiming to protect itself from any future legal actions he might take.
According to a statement published by the company and reported by Reuters, OpenAI submitted a countersuit on Wednesday, asking a federal judge to block Musk from pursuing any additional unlawful or unfair actions against the organization.
This legal move follows a decision by a US federal court in March, which dismissed a lawsuit filed by Musk challenging OpenAI’s transition from a nonprofit entity to a for-profit company, according to the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal recently revealed that a group of investors led by Musk had made an offer to acquire the nonprofit organization controlling OpenAI, valuing it at an astonishing $97.4 billion.
OpenAI, best known for developing the widely popular chatbot ChatGPT, first gained global attention after the product’s launch in November 2022, reaching one million users in less than a week.
Elon Musk was one of OpenAI’s original co-founders in 2015 but later separated from the company.
His ongoing legal disputes with OpenAI highlight the rising tensions over the organization's current structure and commercial ambitions.
