In the aftermath of the devastating storm "Daniel" that struck Libya last month, the OPEC Fund for International Development has pledged a $500,000 grant to support relief and recovery efforts in the country.

This emergency humanitarian aid aims to provide essential assistance to affected populations, including food, clean water, shelter, as well as protection and preventive measures.

The decision to extend this financial assistance was announced in a statement by the OPEC Fund, confirming its commitment to assisting vulnerable communities during crises.

The grant will be directed through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to support the Libyan Red Crescent's operations and field assistance.

Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, Director-General of the OPEC Fund, expressed solidarity with the Libyan people who endured an unimaginable tragedy due to the destructive storm.

He emphasized the importance of international cooperation in providing essential support to those in need and helping them recover from this disaster.

The OPEC Fund's grant is designed to provide immediate aid to the most affected areas and individuals, including families, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Libya, as a founding member of the OPEC Fund, qualifies for support from the organization, especially in cases of emergency grants.

In the wake of the floods, Libya has highlighted its urgent need for additional medical teams and immediate medical assistance, appealing to the international community and humanitarian organizations for aid.

The partnership between the OPEC Fund and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies dates back to 1997.

Over the years, the OPEC Fund has disbursed approximately $32 million in grants to support around 90 humanitarian operations, demonstrating its commitment to alleviating suffering and contributing to disaster relief efforts worldwide.

The grant from the OPEC Fund serves as a testament to international solidarity and the importance of humanitarian assistance during times of crisis.

It underscores the cooperative efforts of organizations and nations to provide timely support to communities in need and facilitate their recovery from unforeseen disasters.
