After controversy made by Mohamed Ramadan when his photos with Israeli celebrities were widely circulated on social media platforms, it’s necessary now to differentiate between political and diplomatic normalization on one hand and cultural and popular normalization.

Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel on March 26, 1979. The normalization of relations went into effect in January 1980, while ambassadors were exchanged in February.

The terminology “normalization” means the process of bringing or returning something to a normal condition or state, according to the Oxford dictionary.

This is what’s called political and diplomatic relations between two states, but the cultural and popular normalization is something different.

Egyptians have not will never, normalized with Israelis. It’s true that dozens of bilateral talks are being held from time to time for collaboration, but this is on diplomatic and official levels only.

Egyptians are so loyal to the Arab nation’s causes. They are not allying with their enemies.

Politically, Israel is not an enemy. However, the Zionist state is never a friend to Egyptians at the popular level.

Dozens accused Egypt of betraying the Palestinian issue, claiming that Egyptians are no more care about restoring the occupied land and Jerusalem.

Mohamed Ramadan’s recent crisis has proved that all those claims are baseless, and Egyptians will always be Palestine’s supporters.

Palestine is not a state, but it’s a home to all Arabs. Long live Egypt. Long live Palestine.

I was pleased with the anger of Millions of Egyptians because of Ramadan’s intimate photos with Israelis. Let’s thank Ramadan for this unintended incident that showed how much we love Palestine.

Thank you, Ramadan, for this opportunity to renew our love, support and loyalty to the Palestinian cause.
