The US President-elect Joe Biden's team confirmed that he will sign a package of decisions on his first day as a president, that reverse his predecessor’s orders.

Before the official announcement, members of Biden's team told "AFP" that Biden has made up his mind to take 17 executive orders to break from the policies of outgoing President Donald Trump.

Among Biden's most notable decisions are the end of Trump's much-assailed ban on visitors from several majority-Muslim countries and halting the construction of the wall on the US-Mexico border to stop illegal immigration.

He will also pledge the US's return to the Paris climate agreement, and to the World Health Organization.

The US president-elect will also set a mask mandate on federal properties to curb the spread of Coronavirus. He will also order the establishment of the New White House office to coordinate efforts to fight COVID-19.

Biden’s inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday at 12:00 pm EST (6:00 CLT).

The outgoing president will not meet Biden or even attend the swearing-in ceremony as usual in the handover of power. Instead, Trump intends to travel to Florida.

Later today, Biden will take the oath as the new US president. Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris is to be sworn in alongside him in Washington DC, which has been fortified amid fears of civil unrest.
