Oman has welcomed the recent announcement of the Bahrain-Israel peace treaty, hoping it will contribute to Israeli-Palestinian peace.

The treaty between the two Middle Eastern countries comes only a month after a similar agreement between the UAE and Israel.

“Oman hopes this new strategic path taken by some Arab countries will contribute to bringing about a peace based on an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and on establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as capital,” the government said in an official statement.

In 2018 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Oman and discussed peace initiatives in the Middle East with then-Omani leader Sultan Qaboos.

It is worth mentioning that, Israel and Bahrain have reached a deal to fully normalize their relations, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday.

Last month, the United Arab Emirates last month agreed to normalize ties with Israel under a U.S.-brokered agreement. The UAE-Israel agreement is scheduled to be signed on Sept. 15 in Washington.
