Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and Luigi Di Maio, the European Union’s Special Envoy to the Gulf region, emphasized the urgent need to reduce military escalation during talks held at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Muscat.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed prospects and mechanisms to halt the ongoing conflict in the region and its repercussions on national security and stability, as well as its impact on international navigation and global energy supplies. Both sides underscored the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts, promoting dialogue and peaceful, lawful solutions to resolve disputes.
They also stressed the necessity of de-escalation through the cessation of military operations, adherence to international law and international humanitarian law, and respect for the sovereignty of states. The officials reaffirmed the role of diplomacy in addressing crises and achieving sustainable security and stability.
Al Busaidi noted that Oman is exerting intensive efforts to ensure safe passage through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, warning that continued conflict in the region has caused widespread economic challenges and could further exacerbate global economic pressures if it persists.
