The Ukrainian military said on Tuesday it had targeted an oil depot in Russia's Kursk region overnight.

"A fire broke out at the enemy facility as a result of the attack," the Ukrainian General Staff said on Facebook.

This comes as Russian forces said on Tuesday they had captured a new village as part of their offensive in the eastern Donetsk region.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the "liberation" of the village of Pivdenny, on the outskirts of the town of Toretsk, towards which Russian forces have been advancing in recent months.

The village was home to about 1,400 people before the war broke out in 2022, according to Ukrainian government estimates.

Moscow says it has taken control of a number of villages in the Donetsk region in recent weeks, but most are limited to a few streets.

Russia announced the annexation of the Donetsk region along with three other regions in eastern and southern Ukraine in 2022, but it does not control them completely.

Russian forces are advancing towards the town of Toretsk, which had a population of about 30,000 before the latest offensive.

This comes as the United States has agreed to supply Ukraine with weapons for dozens of F-16 fighter jets, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing its sources.
