OIC’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Attends Coordination Group Meeting in Istanbul

The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, participated in the Coordination Group meeting on Afghanistan held in Istanbul from 28 to 30 April 2026. 

During the meeting, the Special Envoy emphasised that Afghanistan is going through a critical phase that requires sustained international attention and the adoption of practical and immediate measures to alleviate human suffering and stabilise the economic situation, calling for the continuity of humanitarian aid in the areas of food security and healthcare, while stressing the need for coordinated easing of restrictions on banking channels and the provision of alternative livelihoods to support families and prevent economic deterioration. 

Ambassador Bakhit highlighted the pivotal role played by the organization's institutions and partners, foremost among them the Islamic Development Bank, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in supporting early recovery programs. 

He concluded by reaffirming the organization's commitment to continuing constructive dialogue and working closely with all international parties to promote stability and lay the foundations for Afghanistan’s recovery.
