The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomes Belgium’s declaration of its intention to recognize Palestinian statehood and to impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation government.
The OIC regards these important steps as a reflection of Belgium’s deep commitment to the principles of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly those that affirm the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The General Secretariat also calls on the remaining states to follow Belgium’s decision to impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation as part of their commitments under the orders of the International Court of Justice to achieve justice, ensure accountability and end ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The OIC General Secretariat renews its call to all countries of the world that have yet to recognize Palestinian statehood to declare their recognition and support the State of Palestine’s demand for full membership in the United Nations as part of support for international efforts for peace and implementation of the two-state solution, pursuant to relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
