The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and United Nations officials joined diplomats and experts in Geneva to mark the International Day to Combat Islamophobia with a high-level panel held on the sidelines of the U.N. Human Rights Council’s 61st session.
The event was hosted by the OIC Permanent Delegation in Geneva and aimed to promote global efforts to counter religious discrimination and intolerance. Participants highlighted the importance of building a culture of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and respect for religious diversity.
Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha delivered a special message stressing the need for stronger international cooperation to address rising anti-Muslim hatred and to protect freedom of religion.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of collective action to combat discrimination and promote mutual understanding among communities.
The panel was organized in line with United Nations General Assembly Resolution 76/254, which established March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. Participants called for sustained dialogue and coordinated global action to confront intolerance and protect religious freedoms worldwide.
