The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the Türkiye, marked the International Day of Zero Waste with a high-level seminar in Jeddah, aimed at advancing sustainable waste management and environmental responsibility.
The event was opened by Ambassador Aftab Khokher and featured a video address from Emine Erdoğan, patron of the Zero Waste movement. She stressed the importance of reducing food waste to combat global hunger and environmental degradation while encouraging sustainable lifestyles.
Representatives from major Islamic development and research institutions highlighted that the “Zero Waste” concept can drive economic growth by transforming waste into resources and creating green jobs. Participants called for stronger cooperation among member states to address rising waste levels and their environmental and social impacts.
