The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold its 18th extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of member states next Monday, virtually, to discuss the repeated incidents of desecration and burning of copies of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.
The meeting is in response to the final communiqué issued by the open membership extraordinary meeting of the executive committee of the OIC, held at the organisation's headquarters in Jeddah on July 2, regarding the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden, calling for a high-level emergency meeting when necessary.
The meeting also comes in light of consultations by the Secretary-General of the OIC, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, with member states regarding the implementation of the final communiqué issued by the executive committee, and to consider taking further measures in response to the repeated provocative acts that represent a deliberate manifestation of religious hatred and bias.
Earlier, a statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the foreign ministers of OIC member states will hold an emergency meeting in response to the request made twice by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the OIC, following what happened in the Kingdom of Sweden and was followed by insult to the Holy Quran in Denmark.
