The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened an open-ended governmental expert group meeting at its headquarters in Jeddah, to deliberate on the draft statute of its humanitarian funds in the implementation of a resolution by the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).

In his address, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the OIC Secretary-General, emphasized the urgency of addressing the significant humanitarian challenges currently faced by various Member States. He highlighted the need for unified efforts to develop mechanisms that can effectively mitigate these crises.

The Secretary-General underscored the critical importance of finalizing the statute, implementing necessary reforms to enhance operational efficiency, and securing adequate financial resources to empower these humanitarian funds to fulfill their intended mandates. The speech, delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Tareg Bakheet, the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs, outlined the pressing challenges that the Member States encounter in the humanitarian sector.

Additionally, the Secretary-General expressed gratitude towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its ongoing support and hosting of the organization. He extended his thanks to the Republic of Cameroon, CFM Chair, for chairing the meeting regarding the humanitarian funds and recognized the State of Qatar for its leadership in humanitarian initiatives, including the establishment of these funds and the formulation of the draft statute.
