The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), represented by Ambassador Dr. Dawas Dawas, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Affairs, took part in the meeting of the UNRWA Advisory Committee held in the Jordanian capital, Amman (17–18 June 2026).
In his address, Ambassador Dawas emphasised that the Organization views UNRWA as embodying an international commitment to protecting the rights of Palestinian refugees and as a testament to their Nakba, and that any attempts to undermine its safeguards or privileges are unacceptable.
He also called on states and donors to provide four-pronged support — political, legal, media and financial — to enable the Agency to address its accumulated deficit and continue providing relief to refugees in its five areas of operation, foremost among which is occupied Al-Quds (#Jerusalem).
It should be noted that the OIC participates as an “observer member” in this committee, which comprises 29 member states, to discuss ways of responding to the growing needs of our Palestinian brothers and sisters.
