The Second World Summit for Social Development commenced today, November 4, 2025, in Doha, Qatar, convening high-level participation from heads of state, government officials, ministers of social development, international organisation leaders, and civil society representatives.
This Summit serves as a pivotal platform for reaffirming the global commitment to alleviating poverty, mitigating inequality, and diminishing social exclusion, while advocating for inclusive development frameworks. It provides a critical opportunity to evaluate advancements in social development, identify prevailing gaps, reaffirm the principles articulated in the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration, and galvanise international consensus around prioritising social progress and justice as essential components for achieving sustainable development and fostering global peace and security.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is represented by a senior delegation led by Dr Amina Al-Hajri, Director General of Cultural, Social, and Family Affairs, alongside H.E. Ambassador Hameed Opeloyeru, the OIC Permanent Observer to the United Nations in New York.
This delegation will underscore the OIC's initiatives aimed at social and economic empowerment of women, strengthening family structures and marriage institutions, and nurturing children and youth through participation in side events and strategic bilateral and multilateral discussions.
