The General Secretariat of the OIC participated in the first International Islamic Forum in Uzbekistan, which was attended by ministers, scholars, and intellectuals from various countries worldwide.
In his speech at the opening session, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet conveyed the Secretary-General’s greetings to the Government of Uzbekistan and praised its role in highlighting the Islamic cultural heritage and its historical significance as the homeland of great scholars such as al-Bukhari, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Sina.
He also emphasized the importance of drawing on the Islamic civilizational model—rooted in reason and diversity—to counter current discourses of hatred and polarization.
He reaffirmed the Organization’s commitment to supporting initiatives to protect heritage, promote education and scientific research, and encourage intercultural and interfaith dialogue to spread the values of tolerance and peace.
