The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an extraordinary meeting Thursday to voice strong opposition to Israel’s recognition of the self-declared independent region of Somaliland.
During the session at the General Secretariat in Jeddah, Assistant Secretary-General Youssef bin Mohammed Al-Dubaie, representing Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, described the move as a "flagrant violation" of international law. The OIC reaffirmed its "unwavering support" for the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The General Secretariat warned that such diplomatic shifts threaten regional stability and risk escalating tensions in the Horn of Africa. The OIC called on the international community to uphold Somalia's sovereignty and rejected any attempts to "impose a new reality" that undermines the nation’s established borders. The meeting concludes amid heightened geopolitical sensitivity regarding Somali national unity and external interference.
