The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joins the international community in commemorating the International Day of Families, observed annually on 15 May, under the 2026 theme, "Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing," which underscores the growing impact of social and economic disparities on the stability of families and the healthy development of children across the world.

On this significant occasion, the OIC reaffirms that strong families remain essential to social cohesion, stability, and sustainable development across its Member States. His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, stated: "This day represents an important opportunity to renew the collective commitment to protecting family values, supporting vulnerable families, and promoting policies that uphold dignity, care and social stability for all."

In line with the objectives of the OIC Strategy on Empowering the Institution of Marriage and the Family, as well as the resolutions adopted by the OIC Ministerial Conferences on Social Development and Women, the General Secretariat continues to advance coordinated efforts aimed at strengthening family cohesion, enhancing social protection systems, and fostering policies that safeguard the dignity and wellbeing of children and vulnerable groups. The OIC further underscores the importance of comprehensive and inclusive approaches that address the evolving social, economic, and humanitarian challenges confronting families, while preserving the values of compassion, mutual support, and human dignity that lie at the heart of strong communities.

The General Secretariat also calls upon Member States, relevant OIC institutions, and international partners to intensify cooperation and collective action towards reducing inequalities and creating enabling environments in which families can flourish in peace, stability, and security. In this regard, His Excellency the Secretary-General of the OIC stated: "Strong families are the foundation upon which resilient nations are built. Protecting the wellbeing of families and children is not only a social responsibility, but a moral and civilisational imperative essential to safeguarding the future of our societies and advancing human dignity for all."
