The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) highlighted the role of universities and innovation in driving sustainable development during the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD 2026) summit in Bali, Indonesia.
Representing the OIC, Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher called for deeper cooperation between universities, governments and industry to ensure that scientific research and technological innovation deliver tangible social and economic benefits.
In his opening remarks, Khokher welcomed ongoing collaboration between the World University Association for Community Development and COMSTECH, the OIC’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. He urged the implementation of joint initiatives involving universities in OIC member states, including Bangladesh, Uganda, Niger, Chad and Malaysia.
Khokher also reaffirmed the OIC General Secretariat’s commitment to supporting collaborative projects that advance scientific research, technological innovation and sustainable development across the Islamic world.
