The United Nations has called for immediate international intervention to halt the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, warning of its expanding global impact.
Thameen Al-Kheetan, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, said the repercussions of the war are no longer limited to the region, highlighting significant disruptions to global supply chains and energy resources. These disruptions have contributed to rising prices in multiple countries.
He affirmed that the poorest and most marginalized communities are the hardest hit, as they already struggle to access basic necessities. The crisis, he warned, is widening inequality, particularly in developing nations where safeguards against inflation remain weak.
Al-Kheetan warned that continued escalation could lead to food insecurity and potential hunger crises in several parts of the world. He urged UN member states and key international actors to act swiftly to end the conflict and contain its humanitarian and economic consequences.
